Hello everyone and welcome to week 9’s recap of 2018’s my diet starts Monday. So, as you know, I hit my goal of losing 40 pounds in 60 days, losing not just 40 but 47 pounds in the first 60 days of 2018. Now, for most, the new year didn’t quite start off that way. But that’s okay, it just went the same way it went every year…
You go thru the holidays in November and December with total reckless abandon. I mean, is there anything you didn’t eat. No, pretty much everything that was within arm’s reach went right down the pie hole. Which was fine at the time, because you actually believed it when you told yourself that you were going to get serious at the start of the year. And, not so much. And on top of that, Valentine’s Day wasn’t doing you any favors either. And here we are in March. March! Spring starts on the calendar in a couple weeks and weather starts literally to warm up shortly after that.
Usually, when the weather warms up, things happen that usually involve a big ship, possibly a beach or a lake, and maybe even a pool. And that usually includes wearing less than what you currently got on. Yes, it includes wearing a bathing suit. Now, it’s up to you as to whether or not it’s going to also include the double extra-large tee shirt over that bathing suit as well? It’s up to you if it’s going to include spending another year scaring young children and frightening small pets. Let’s decide to look great for the summer of 2008…teen.
And not that I need to tell you, but when the weather warms up, there’s weddings. People get married. Chances are you have a wedding to attend. A good friend, a relative, a family member. Now there will be lots of pictures taken that day. And, you may be able to hide behind Uncle Ralph for a few of them, but not all. And you don’t want to anyway, right? You want to look and feel your best for that day. You want the pictures to reflect your best you, not reflect the glare of the flash coming off your double chin.
So, the good news is, it’s not too late. You have time to pull it together and make a switch. And if trips, beaches, and weddings are on your calendar, don’t hesitate too much longer. What is make a switch? It’s the process of switching your body over from sugar burner to fat burner. It’s switching the body’s chemistry so instead of burning the sugar from the food that you are eating, it will reach for your fat to burn for energy. So, the formula to lose weight is not so much about calories, as it is about chemistry.
Now, if you have been following the videos, you know that formula for making the switch is to know 3 things. What to eat. When to eat. And how much to eat. Most people’s chemistry is in the mode of burning sugar and storing fat. That’s the gain weight equation. What we do with the make a switch program is switch that around, flip that on its head and not burn sugar, but burn fat, and instead of storing fat, we are dispersing, dispelling, disposing, and consuming fat on a massive scale. That is the weight loss equation!
#1. What to eat. Nothing, absolutely nothing that will keep you in sugar burning mode. No foods, or even relatives of those foods, no in-laws, first cousins, and even second cousins. And everything that puts the body in fat burning mode. Fat is converted for transportation purposes into something called ketones. So, elevated ketones mean that fats are being mobilized in the body for fuel and you’re on your way.
#2. When to eat. Believe it or not, when you eat can be just as important as what you eat. There are different schools of thought on when to eat. So, in the words of Dallin Oaks, there’s a good, a better, and a best. Make a switch goes with the best to get into and stay in fat burning mode, and it’s also best as far as lifestyle purposes. Yes, a sustainable long-term approach. What a concept, right?
And #3. How much do I eat? Now, once your chemistry is taken care of, now you can look at calories. This determines the pace. Wanna lose it slow and stay in a mild fat burning mode? Up your calories. Wanna lose it quicker and stay in a more elevated level of ketosis? Lower your calories.
Now, I know how you did. How are others doing on Make a Switch? I’m glad you asked. This 49-year-old gentleman has lost 25 pounds in 24 days. This 53-year old gentleman lost 22 pounds in 21 days. And this 72-year old grandmother lost 14 pounds in 3 weeks and calls me the hero of her life. No, no my dear. It’s you that is the hero.
And for me? Training starts this week. Two half marathons, one in May, and another in late July, and then a full marathon in St. George in October. Whether it’s a vacation, a wedding, or a marathon, the important thing is to have a vision because where there is no vision, the people perish! And in that vision, make sure that you see that it is chemistry over calories. And it is better to be in alignment than out of alignment every single time. We will see you at the next post, next week.
