Posture

Structure Determines Function

Chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure and function and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health. (CAA) Too often, attempts at restoring health fail by neglecting structure in the effort to improve function.

Chiropractic is a health care discipline based on the scientific premise that the body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism. These important functions are controlled by the Nervous System made up on the brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves of the body. In fact, medical text books states, “the Nervous System is the master control system, that runs and regulates every other system of the body.”

Chiropractic recognizes that structure determines function; it recognizes that our health is determined by the function of the Nervous System, our brain and spinal cord; we therefore recognize health can be obtained through optimal structure of our Spine, called Posture.

To understand how important posture is to overall health, the medical literature states, “posture affects and moderates every physiologic function…Spinal pain, headache, mood, blood pressure, pulse, and lung capacity are among the functions most easily influenced by posture.”

The secret to maintaining and managing good posture lies in knowing one fact. The part of the brain that manages our posture is the same part of the brain that manages our stress. The harder it is to manage stress, the harder it is to manage your posture…your Alignment. The better you are at managing stress, the longer you will be able to hold your correction and maintain Alignment.
